Frequently Asked Questions
Rules light ? so does that mean unrealistic ?
We did not intend RPGTribe to be a realistic interpretation of any real world. If you want deep rulesets and more balanced play then there are many better choices available.
Many of them involve lengthy discussions around sometimes vague and confusing rules and all of them demand ever more of your hard earned cash.
Over the last 50 years (Yep many of us have been playing that long) we have seen the industry go from inexpensive rulebooks and a hobby any school kid could afford to play, to a multimillion dollar industry consumed with greed and shareholder profits.
The RPGTribe rules are free forever and are owned by everyone. Gamemaster rule guidelines and conversion charts are also free and either created by us or contributed by other authors.
I am more a ‘Roll’ focused GM than a ‘Role playing’ GM ?
Totally ok with us, we play like that in many games too. Sure in RPGTribe you may need to add a little more narrative or ‘handwaving’ rules to get by, but its not like roleplaying will ever be an Esport or anything. What you will avoid is hours of discussion in the middle of a game over the interpretation of some poorly written and edited rule in the manufacturers books. Your games will run much faster, all players will stay involved and we believe the experience will be much smoother for all.
Can beginners join?
Absolutely RPGTribe rules closely match the “best practices” of modern games, if you are just starting then you will use dice and rules that you will use for games you will play in the future. If you already play RPG’s then you will easily get to grips with a RPGTribe game in no time at all.
Which RPG genres are included?
RPGTribe can be made to suit any genre, including the many established story modules and campaigns by various game manufacturers, your own narratives and sagas and likely game worlds that no one has yet put together. Check out the available conversion guides here (LINK)
